The North Karelian Stakeholder Group gathered up for the last time on 6th of October in Joensuu. The ending of project is close, but discussion was already heading to future plans and ideas! The attendees in the meeting represented public and private actors and organizations at the sector.
One of the stops during the StarTree field trip and Knowledge Exchange Event (KEE) in May 2015 was the StarTree marketplace which glistened with berries, resins, birch sap, herbs, tar, spruce tip syrup and much more. Stakeholders from North Karelia displayed their wares and explained to the StarTree Consortium how they develop their products and the challenges faced on reaching markets.
Sparkling wine made from berries and artic bramble was on the tasting menu for the StarTree field trip and Knowledge Exchange Event (KEE). Hermanni Winery Company produces a wide range of forest berry wines and liquors although facing challenges in reaching the market and limitations on sales venues due to Finland's strict alcohol laws. A fitting setting, then, to discuss legislation issues at the third part of the StarTree KEE.
The StarTree project is at the stage where it is vital to reflect on what has been achieved so far and what is still to be attained before the end of the project. Crucial next steps will focus on dissemination activities, including scientific publications and a broad range of StarTree dissemination products. Brainstorming sessions among Consortium members over the course of the 6th General Assembly, held in Joensuu, Finland, from 11 – 13 May, generated many ideas and questions to be followed up in the next months.
