Forests harbour an abundance of untapped resources
Non-Wood Forest Products and the StarTree project were featured in the January edition of the METLA International Newsletter.
The article discusses how, in Finland, berries and mushrooms are considered forest by-products and little attention is paid to their availability.
Using examples and insights gained from the StarTree project, the article considers how further processing options and new uses for NWFPs, and possible related services, may help in deriving more benefits from NWFPs.
Another aspect of StarTree research discussed are international trade flows and their application to the situation in Finland.
