A meeting and public discussion about recently observed yield losses in quantity and quality of Mediterranean stone pine cones took place on 1 October 2013. Around 200 pine cone pickers and a good screening of the most relevant processing industry from Spain and Portugal gathered in the village of Pedrajas de San Esteban, a rural community where pine nut industry is one of the major sectors of local economy.

The third StarTree General Assembly will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 28 - 30 October 2013.

The 1^st call for Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) under COST Action FP1203: European Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) Network is open. STSM candidates are invited to submit their applications until the 11 October 2013.

The STSM proposals on this call should not start before the 11 November 2013 or end after the 30 April 2014.

As part of the stakeholder engagement process being carried out for the Startree project in the West Wales and the Valleys region, Llais y Goedwig hosted a launch event at the Royal Welsh Show on July 23^rd.

StarTree and project partner Waldmärker were featured in the German newspaper "Deutscher Waldbesitzer".

On 4 July 2013, the Regional Stakeholder Group first met at the conference room of the Forestry Association Lüneburg GmbH (FVL).

10 participants of public and private forest institutions, private forest owners, foresters and an expert in decoration markets have followed the invitation from the FVL and University Hamburg (UHAM).

On 2 July, 21 representatives of public and private institutions concerned with Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) gathered in Barcelona to launch the expert panel for the StarTree project. This panel will convene annually and will serve as a dialogue and collaboration platform for the development of the project in the regional case study.

Representatives of 11 private and public institutions active in the non-wood forest product (NWFP) sector attended the first Šumadija and Western Serbia stakeholder meeting on June 12 in Belgrade. As part of StarTree’s stakeholder engagement activities, initial stakeholder meetings are currently taking place in each of the 14 case study regions.

The StarTree partners' visit to a prestigious truffle and mushroom processor in November was featured recently by the Catalan company Laumont SL.

The visit was part of the field trip to the region which took place during the StarTree Project Kick-off Meeting, held in Barcelona on 21-22 November 2012.

As part of the stakeholder engagement process, the first Bursa regional stakeholder workshop was held on the 20 May 2013.

Bursa is one of the 14 Regional Stakeholder Groups which wll be active in the StarTree Case Study Regions over the next 4 years.  Stakeholders in StarTree will provide valuable insights for an overview of the NWFP sector at regional and European level, and innovative approaches in the management and use of MPT and NWFP.

On 31 May, representatives of 9 public and private institutions concerned with multipurpose forest management and non-wood forest products (NWFP) attended the first stakeholder meeting of the case study Province of Valladolid within the European StarTree project.

StarTree General Assembly was a busy week for the 44 participants who met in Riga, Latvia, from 7-10 May. At least one representative attended from each of the 24 StarTree consortium partners who were hosted by the Latvian State Forest Research Institute (Silava).

A new COST action was launched in Brussels on 9 April 2013.  The aim of the Action is to establish a European non-wood forest products (NWFPs) network.

The next StarTree General Assembly meeting will take place in Riga, Latvia, from 7 – 10 May 2013.
