The Joensuu Forestry Networking Week (JFNW) invites young and experienced scientists, professionals, policy makers, decision takers, and other stakeholders to discuss non-wood products and bioeconomy issues in Joensuu, Finland on 2-4 September 2014.

One of the cornerstones of the StarTree General Assembly meeting was the organisation of a „market place“, in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences between science and practice. The market place was first of all not meant to simply present the products but rather to provide the floor for discussion between the regional representatives and the project consortium partners.

The StarTree “Market Place” and Knowledge Exchange Event has become one of the cornerstones of the StarTree General Assembly meeting. The “Market Place” facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experiences between science and practice.

More than 50 participants attended 4th StarTree General Assembly (GA) meeting. The three‐day meeting was held in the historic Stift Neuberg in the village of Neuberg an der Mürz. Neuberg is placed in the heart of the Styrian Case Study region in the South-Eastern part of Austria, which enabled close and fruitful interaction with regional stakeholders in the project.

The 4th StarTree General Assembly is now taking place in the beautiful region of Styria, Austria. 

The stunning venue is the Stifthof Cloister in the village of Neuberg an der Murz.

The GA runs from 2-4 April.

After a short summary of the main outcomes of the first RSG meeting a discussion on the key product groups that should be tackled in the project evolved. Due to the importance of honey or fish It was emphasized to broaden the RSG´s focus on the three selected products - Swiss stone pine, fruits/berries & game.

Furthermore the definition of forest related NWFPs was put into question (e.g. fish farming, river fishing).

The 4th StarTree General Assembly will take place in Neuberg, Austria from 2-4 April 2014.

In a new article "Mushroom production as an alternative for rural development in a mountainous area. A regional case study", previously published mushroom yield models were combined with the national forest inventory and forest maps to predict the potential mushroom production of Catalonia.

The first International Conference on Truffle Research took place in Vic, Catalonia, from 9 to 12 March.

No início do encontro foi realizada uma breve apresentação do projeto, assinalando as definições mais relevantes, nomeadamente Arvore Multifuncional (MPT) e produtos florestais não lenhosos (NWFP). Portugal tem o caso estudo Alentejo (NUT2) para o qual foram selecionados como produtos NWFP: a cortiça, o pinhão e os cogumelos.
