1st Portuguese Stakeholders Meeting in Lisbon
The 1st meeting with the Stakeholders of the StarTree Project was held in the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) in Lisbon.
The definitions of multi-purpose trees (MPT) and of non-wood forest products (NWFP) were distinguished for the relevance on the project goal to support stakeholders in optimising the management for a more competitive rural economy.
The adopted regional case study (CSR) area for Portugal is Alentejo (NUT II) and cork, pine kernels and mushrooms were the selected NWFP. However, other NWFP can be included and some stakeholders showed interest in this, namely for also including honey and resin.
The in-depth case studies (IDCS) concept was also discussed, which will probably be applied in Chamusca County, were data is most available. The IDCS goal is to develop and improve growth and yield models for MPT and the selected NWFPs and link the models into forest simulators.
The aim of this first meeting was to exchange ideas and information between stakeholders and the project team from ISA. In future, project information will be available in the public area of the site StarTree project in English and in Portuguese.
Within each Work package, different surveys and questionnaires were produced to collect information from partners. Those documents were briefly presented and a copy was provided. Thus, stakeholders' collaboration in gathering the requested information for Portugal is requested. Considering their real-world knowledge, the participants are welcome to comment on the relevance of the selected questions and to propose some relevant questions to be included.
In the debate, the participants approached several topics that were discussed under the StarTree goal. In summary, the participants gave greater importance to field data collection.
At the end of the meeting participants were invited to briefly comment on the presented WP surveys and questionnaires and to submit other relevant topics.
